Figuring out where to start on a blank canvas is hard stuff. That’s how it was after listening to Frontier(s)’ White Lights this morning. I had no clue what to say about this overtly manly rock record but I guess we’ll just get to the review and stop pussyfooting around.
Again, the testosterone in this album was on point. I felt like I needed a beer when the likes of “33/3” and “Bare Hands” played. Speaking of, “33/3” felt like a song from a band that’d be on tour with the Foo Fighters – it just had that real, overall rock feel. Only without the pop chart hooks Foo Fighters are well known for. Anyways, I’d skip the slow ways of “Our March” and head straight for the money shot in “Higher Hills.” I felt it was ironic that they sung “You better wash your tears away” as I just spent a chunk of the morning in my usual salty eye position.
I found something to say, but the story of Frontier(s) doesn’t end here. If you like bands like Balance & Composure and Rival Schools, you’re going to want to grab a pint and this record. White Lights is out August 5th on Tiny Engines – the wait is short, so just suck it up and get it soon and catch them out on the road in August.
