the-y-axes-sunglasses-and-solar-flares-reviewYesterday I was so good at not letting anything distract me and I’m trying my hardest to continue that this week. So here we are with The Y Axes’ Sunglasses & Solar Flares. I’d gotten so used to EPs that this one threw me for a loop, but we got through thanks to a lot of upbeat pop that’s underlined with indie ways and a somewhat electronic base.

Anytime a song can serve up some sass, I’m in. So that’s why I gravitated towards the hints of attitude in “Sunglasses” and “Loop Machine.” And while I wasn’t so much a fan of “Nanoseconds” or “Phaser,” The Y Axes made up for it with the music of “Green To Gold,” it was like you took a video game and transformed it into a indie dance track. Nothing compared to “Nothing With You” though. I took it as this really obscure love song of sorts and in a way it was the sweetest thing you could say. Maybe it’s the mediocrity of my life, but I’d be kind of flattered if someone said that to me.

All in all the record is well-made and does the trick thanks to pristine playing and vocals that falter. The Y Axes intertwine a sense of indie and electronic with their pop style to make carve out their own niche in this crazy world. So if this sounds like something you’d be into, check them out and note Sunglasses & Solar Flares is out now.
