It’s not often (ever) that I let a boy get the best of me and distract me but I’m putting those overly girly emotions on hold to go back to the one place that always feel comfortable – some new fangled Warped Tour sounding pop punk. Oh Battleghost, thank you for Transient. It’s just the little distraction a gal like me needs today.
After a quick intro, we get into it and with “Stateless” I felt like the record was going to play like a polished piece – maybe a bit too polished, but that thought quickly faded as a pair came my way. “Contentions” and “Locust Grove” reminded me all too well of the first time I heard The Story So Far, only I didn’t think Battleghost needed anger management afterward. It was more the vocals of the first and the music of the second that brought me to that comparison.
In the end I could see myself walking through Warped with my niece (who I’m taking to her first Warped this summer) and stopping to check out Battleghost on the makeshift Ernie Ball Stage and being a little interested, just so long as it was “Locust Grove” that was playing. So if you’re a fan of pop punk, make sure to add this band to the list and check out Transient when it drops May 15th.
