Otenki: The War Outside

otenki-the-war-outside-reviewThis morning I went through a series of events that would’ve likely led to a Horrible Bosses situation. Don’t worry, the thoughts of homicide were slightly taken over when I popped on Otenki’s The War Outside. While this rock record had its moments, I wasn’t overwhelmed at any point to make it my go-to record later.

The Aaron Musslewhite remixes of a few of the songs were good if you are into electronic beats, but I’m not. So I passed on those to get to the meat of the record. Songs like “Ghosts” and “It Will Rain” were more my pace and made me think, this band could be on tour with There For Tomorrow or The Maine. The best The War Outside had to offer though was one I would never understand. No, it wasn’t a random metalcore song tossed in this pop rock album, it was a Spanish song. “La Botella” was this slow, song that my two years of high school Spanish enjoyed.

While I make my final plans for my predicament, I’d like to tell you that if you’re into pop rock that’s got a pinch of edge and/or like electronic takes on said pop rock, check out Otenki – they’ve got you covered on all counts. The War Outside is out January 28th. Bonus points for why that’s an important date to me.
