This year has been a good one for a former TGIF show. Here alone I’ve talked to a pop punk band by the name of Boy Meets World, and it was announced that the actual show was getting new life – Girl Meets World. Now I have this album in front of me (not really, it’s on the good ol’ laptop) called Topanga. I actually thought Decoded named the record after a famous area of LA, nope; there was Danielle Fishel on the cover of this rock record.
Songs like “Red Handed” and “Last Night” played like a local’s showcase here in LA at the Viper Room. The band does what they can, but aren’t able to make me latch on to anything. The only tracks that were able to make me feel anything were “Topanga” thanks to my love of nostalgia and the show. Read this to find out more on that. Then just when I thought that was it, “Not Easy Being Alone” summed up my current state. I spend 90% of the week alone and that song title speaks the truth, but I don’t know if I can stand by Decoded swearing it’ll be okay if I love myself. Solitude is depressing…
Musically I can hear this record playing in the truck of a manly dude who does construction and likes a cold one after his shift. This is ironic since half of the band is made of women. Nevertheless, if you were a fan of bands like Puddle of Mudd then take a second to check out Decoded’s Topanga, out now. Create some buzz so these LA natives can check some things off their goal list.
