july-what-we-signed-up-for-reviewOther than avoiding actual work, I’m in another war with my back. It’s in the center and making it really difficult to sit up straight. As the pain meds start to kick in, I’m finding it a bit easier to bob along to the pop rock delight that is July’s What We Signed Up For. I typed too soon, the pain is back and I’m grimacing and smiling at the same time as this infectious record tries hard to be my musical relief.

When “What We Signed Up For” started and led into “West Coast Pimpin’” I thought that July could simply be a tour mate for the likes of All Time Low. They share that same gift for capturing idea of life and love while maintaining an overall cute tone that has its moments of oomph. Moments when the guitars are played a little faster and songs like “Secret Is A Sleazy Word” and “To All The Kids” come into play. You have the fun and you have the harder stuff, and then you have perfect with “Second Best.” That one’s the complete July package.

Much like their name, July’s music manages to make you feel like it’s not November. Their record is upbeat, energetic and has moments that fans of Mayday Parade and Go Radio will enjoy. What We Signed Up For is out now on TDR Records.
