Screw that dude who’s paying me, I just want to escape his mindset. The one that renders him to believe I’m at his beck and call. I ran away figuratively to the arms of an album that’s been sitting way too long on the bench that is my iTunes; Save Ends’ Warm Hearts, Cold Hands. It’s been awhile since I last strapped on my reviewing pants thanks to needing to pay bills and shit like that, but this was a nice welcome back into my routine for this record wasn’t overbearing, just some sweet he said, she said indie with some edge.
I noticed I wrote edge and then spent the entire time listening to the sweet, feminine side of the record. Songs like “Chasing Embers” and “Always Knew” were the ones I placed on a loop as I avoided work emails and stumbled from the kitchen back to my desk every so often for a snack. Don’t get me wrong, the masculine touches were well appreciated on tracks like “A Life They Wrote” and stood strong in “Skeptical Sons / Curious Daughters.”
I guess I’ll either go back to work or dive into another record at this point. I’ll leave you know to get into some Save Ends if you’re into bands like Little Big League and Lemuria. You can do yourself a solid if you are and check out Warm Hearts, Cold Hands, out now on Tiny Engines.
