Drowning Swans: Mememories

drowning-swans-mememories-reviewThere’ve been two “power naps” taken since I woke up this morning. Keep in mind these words are being released from my fingers only two and a half hours after I initially left my bed. You’d think listening to a record like Drowning Swans’ Mememories would have done the trick. Its loud metalcore couldn’t shake my sleepy mindset. Maybe it had something to do with one aspect of the record.

This isn’t the genre I instantly heads towards when I’m looking for something to sing along to, but a lot of albums like this have come through Golden Mixtape over the years. I can say that this one had the music right. Every moment in that department was on point in songs like “Passing the Seawall” and “My Intelligence is Three.” Then there was the vocals – Mememories is the first time (that I can remember) that I liked the harder vox over the clean ones. The clean vocals in “Stay Sweet, Ocean” seemed displaced; like they should’ve been on a pop punk LP. With that said, I’d put all my eggs in “The Uncoiling” basket; best of the batch.

Drowning Swans is for those who engage in metalcore shows and like your music with a bit of a thrash appeal to it. In the future I’d like to hear something more from the vocal section though. Mememories is out now, so hit it up and check it out.
