Being woken up by a call from your mom saying your little brother is heading to the hospital due to seizures is bad news for the rest of your day. The worst case scenario was playing over and over again and even when Softly, Dear’s Portico played a dozen or more times, it failed to shake my mindset. Now I think I have composed myself enough to give them my attention since my brother’s home and (for now) okay. Earlier this indie record was being outshined by reality woes, now it’s aiding me in trying to get a tight grip on the rest of the day.
So here we go, a couple tracks were just to showcase what Softly, Dear can do with their instruments; “Portico” and the longer one “Lenses.” They were great if you’re into music with no words, which this morning was nice because my mind wasn’t ready to focus on anything but. As far as what they can do when they tap in the word stream, “Better Times” was the one I circled back to when I came out of my funk. It was the most uplifting, but I must point out that “Know My Name” is a contender as well.
If you’re in the market for a new band to flood your thoughts, you may want to consider Softly, Dear for the job. That’s if you like bands that can not only place words with songs, but have the ability to showcase their musicianship as well. So if you like that indie music that’s got a relaxing vibe, check out Portico, out now.
