the Vernons: Volume 1

the-vernons-volume-1-reviewEveryone says you have to watch Almost Famous if you write about music. It was on my “to do” list because of that and the fact that my future husband Patrick Fugit’s in it. So after months of it sitting on a shelf after buying it on Amazon, I popped it in. This story relates to the Vernons’ Volume 1 not because I hate them like I do Russell, but because their music reminds me of what I heard throughout the movie. It’s got this 70’s rock vibe that conjures up visions of a laid back party that’s all about the coitus.

You can hear the sex in the vocals as the guitars lay on top of them. Songs like “Shake N Roll” and “White Wine” get you hot and bothered while still entertaining you with the music. Sexy times sometimes is paired with a nice cold beer, and that’s “Standing In Line.” This is partly because if sounds like it could be used in a beer commercial; Foster’s, Australian for beer. The other reason is because it’s the most refreshing on the album, dare I say addicting. Like with drinking, please listen responsibly.

All in all, when you listen and if you enjoy – the EP is not enough. I guess you have to keep them begging for more, right? If you’re into bands that sound like something your parents rebelled to by listening to in the 70’s, then you definitely want to get in the know when it comes to the Vernons. Volume 1 is out September 6th.
