Matt Golaboff: One Last Time

matt-golaboff-one-last-time-reviewWho tried waking up early this morning and failed? This girl, but I’m sticking to my list and getting to it! Last night with Father of the Bride occasionally on mute, I started listening to the singer songwriter ways of Matt Golaboff. His new EP One Last Time instantly made me think of a guy sitting on a sidewalk with a turned over hat, singing heartfelt words as traffic served as a backdrop. He’s a new artist, who could use some smoothing out, but overall I was transported back to the days when the likes of Ryan Cabrera and Teddy Geiger had a distinct place on the airwaves.

It was around the time I was saying a final farewell and fuck you to high school and a glorious hello to college that cute guys with guitars who sang honest pop came about. With a time machine you could place Matt Golaboff in 2005 and see him tour with Tyler Hilton. Yes, he still plays but One Tree Hill isn’t a thing anymore. Anyways, Matt’s style comes through most in songs like “According To Myself” and “Trigger,” but the best of the batch is the catch “Refills.” It’s a song about drinking those sorrows away and hey, who doesn’t like one of those kinds of tracks? There were some rough patches throughout, but nothing more time and practice couldn’t smooth out.

If you happened to fall for any of the aforementioned guys once upon a time, then by all mean please check out Matt Golaboff. Take that trip back in time check out One Last Time, available now.
