My head is being pulled in 20 different directions and I tried hard to focus on one thing at a time and then – BOOM! I exploded and burrowed away in my comforter for 30 minutes. I regained an ounce of strength and the first thing I wanted to get to was Football, etc. and their new record Audible. I remember noting this band some time last year, and then that press release was lost and I moved on. I couldn’t very well let that happen again though, because through their indie music filled with somber messages, I managed to smile.
As emails are coming in left and right, I continue to dodge them so I can stay with Football, etc. Overall the record plays like the saddened musical pages of someone’s journal. Every enlightened thought dimmed by the harsh reality of the world. It was because of this I found solace in a pair, but before I touch on those may I suggest a couple for you? Given the chance, let the light ways of “Fair” and the honesty of “Red Zone” be your intro course to Audible. I’ll be over here listening and connecting to “Forfeit” and “Time Out.” Both capture the perspective of someone who’s had enough. “Forfeit” more so than the other, I too believe it’d be “nice to not have to try.”
If Allison Weiss and Sixpence None The Richer were related and had a cousin who rarely wore a grin, that’d be Football, etc. The vocals are airy, but the messages run deep. Audible is out now on Count Your Lucky Stars, so stop your waiting and get on it.
