Möbius Strip: Step Down

mobius-strip-step-down-reviewReligion, it’s something I think you have the right to but you don’t have the right to push it on others. Government, it’s something I think controls too much and spies on us for marketing and power. So when I tossed on Möbius Strip’s Step Down, I got what they were coming from, but the way the delivered it wasn’t what I’d normally sit down with. Their style of punk is far too organic for me to sink my teeth into. It’s too raw for my liking, but if that’s how you like it, dig in.

At first I thought “Step Down” was a pro-gay marriage song, which is awesome, but then I realized it was more about the bigger picture; separation of church and state. The rest of the EP followed suit with anarchist elements mentioning stands in “Interpretation” and courts in “O’Dark.” Their lyrics alone with garner the attention of every kid who hates “the man” and marks every surface with the anarchy symbol to proudly state they don’t give a fuck. The music however will generate curiosity with those who are a fan of punk that’s the basics. It’s not that abrasive Sex Pistols style, yet it’s not like the pop punk heard done by a good percentage of the bands on the annual Warped Tour. It’s like Suicidal Tendencies had a little baby and told it to go spread its message to the world through music.

If you are a fan of bare boned, anarchist punk, then check out Möbius Strip. I like where they’re going, but it was a little too out there musically for my taste, but maybe it’s more fitting for your palette. Step Down is available now on Left Out Records.
