There have been quite a few emails in my inbox about Farewell Fighter over the past few weeks, and every time I heard a new song from them I thought, “Where the hell have these dudes been hiding?” Apparently Nashville, TN – then I realized that they weren’t entirely new to me. They were one of the many on A Tribute to The Movielife record last year. They were a pop punk asset to the compilation putting their spin on “Jamaica Next.” Fast forward to this week and they got an album of their own in my iTunes and I’m happy to welcome it. Challenges sits high on my list of records this year for being straight laced pop punk that’s filled with vigor and a sense of youth. You’re keeping me young Farewell Fighter!
Usually you like something because it reminds you of something you already let into your life. That’s what it was like listening to Challenges. At times I was tossed into an All Time Low spiral with “Bridges” and other times Farewell Fighter reminded me of an amped up version of You, Me, and Everyone We Know with songs like “Epitaph” and “Love Lust.” Not every song was a hint of someone else though, “Fall” and “Grow” were the poplicious ones I’d gladly dance along to, while “See” did everything right to be the best on the record. It was the moment I stopped and collected myself and thought: this is it, this is the one. The pace, the music, the lyrics; everything was a perfect 10.
If you’re thinking about investing your time in a new band that’s full of good music and times, and also like have everything in your iPod from Motion City Soundtrack (check out “Well Wishing”) to All Time Low, then Farewell Fighter is your new “must have.” Challenges is out now on Easy Killer Records, so there’s not even a wait…Go and get it!
