Just the other day I said I was born a Lisa, but am slowly turning into a Bart. If you don’t know what that means, then you haven’t owned a TV or been outside in a very long time and I feel sad for you. Anyways, I’ve been down and out about being 26 and somewhat useless, but have been trying to keep my spirits up with writing, and sometimes the music passes you by and sometimes it stops and stays for a comforting visit. On the surface Beartooth’s Sick wouldn’t be my ideal house guest. It’s rambunctious and loud, but once you got past all that the words were consoling because if you’re feeling like I do, you need music that pinpoints feeling down and out.
“I Have A Problem” indeed. The heavy hitting first track was just the first time I connected with this record. Friends of mine who listen will be confused because music like this usually isn’t listened to on a regular basis. It’s hardcore influenced by the vitality of metal. This kind of music is typically too \mm/ (too much metal for me), but again, it was the words that got me. “Set Me On Fire” was about self-loathing, while “Pick Your Poison” took home the first prize for one splendid line. “…not useless, I’m just the king of excuses,” I feel could be the slogan for my generation.
If you’re having a bad day and need to connect to something on a musical level and don’t want to settle on regurgitated clichés on Top 40 about staying stronger and being all you can be, then check out Beartooth. They’re also good if you spend your free time listening to bands like Issues and Woe Is Me. Sick is out now, so click away from here and get on it…It’s available for FREE so no excuses.
