Sleeping With Sirens: Feel

sleeping-with-sirens-feel-reviewWoke up with a positive mindset and after just a few hours and one clean bathroom later it was gone. My words led me into getting it with my brother’s ex/baby mama and I’m pretty sure she hates me forever now. Plus, it distracted me from having the most productive day ever. I managed to shake that drama as I sat with Peter Pan on mute and listened to Sleeping With Sirens’ Feel. Later unmuted I found that I was still a bit sidetracked, Peter was a player and that after a few listens I came to enjoy Kellin Quinn’s high-pitched range.

A few years ago I wrote a review of Sleeping With Sirens’ With Ears To See And Eyes To Hear on a site that no longer exists, but I remember that if given the choice, I’d never lay my ears on it again. I thought that’d be the case when Feel began, but that wasn’t the case…entirely. While I didn’t love every track, I found more to note on Feel than I ever did on With Ears To See And Eyes. A few of the noteworthy tracks were the ones Sleeping With Sirens had their friends on, “Alone” featuring my imaginary boyfriend MGK and “Congratulations” with Memphis May Fire’s Matty Mullins.

The best though came when Sleeping With Sirens stood on their own with insightful and other times, infectious lyrics. Any time a song has the world “feel” and it’s sung in a manner that reminds me of Madonna’s “Ray of Light,” it’s hard for me to hear the rest of the song. Case in point, All Time Low’s “Forget About It.” But although “Feel” reminded me of the Material Girl, the idea of not apologizing for who you are was stronger than the comparison. “Here We Go” was a favorite for much of the same reason. Other tracks that I’d recommend for the SparkNotes edition; “Low” and “Déjà Vu.”

Still a bit distracted by what could come next from the family drama, I come to a close on my time with Sleeping With Sirens’ Feel. While I wait that out, make sure to check out Sleeping With Sirens on Warped Tour all summer long and Feel if you’re a fan of Piece The Veil and Of Mice & Men. Feel is out June 4th on Rise Records.
