NK: Nothing To Be Gained Here

nk-nothing-to-be-gained-here-reviewThe only reason NK is on my radar is because they are one of the four bands Fall Out Boy has chosen to open for them on their current tour. I’m still a little upset Panic! At The Disco is on their arena tour in the fall and not on the one I have a ticket for, but I’ll get over it and focus on NK’s Nothing To Be Gained Here.  In between making top 10 lists about everything from favorite TV dads to men who could play Superman, I found myself in the schizophrenic grasp of Nothing To Be Gained Here. A week or so ago I popped it on and thought, oh it’s like Linkin Park, that’s cool. Then today things got weird.

So yes, NK can draw comparisons to Linkin Park and often times Rage Against the Machine when it comes to “Confessional” and “Shoulder Gorilla,” which were the ones I leaned towards. The songs you love on this record will definitely depend on your personal preference because the genres are all over the place. Just when you thought you had NK’s sound pegged down, here comes “Vacation Days” and you’re like, did I put on that Fitz and The Tantrums? That’s not even the end of it, NK then goes into an indie band mode with the Foster The People like “X It Out,” and later the Coachella continues with “Set A Fire.”

What sounded more like a compilation of NOW That’s What I Call Variety, NK have put together an album that’s clearly for the eclectic person out there who, when asked “what kind of music are you into?” can be that person who says truthfully, “a little bit of everything.” So if you are that person who has a CD collection that looks like a full blown Amoeba, then NK will be up your alley. When you can have a hint of everything you love, why not have it all on one record? Nothing To Be Gained Here is out now on Triple Crown Records.
