a-bright-sky-reinventing-yourself-reviewMonday mornings for me aren’t that much different than any other day because I work from home. The only thing that has be down today and feeling groggy is the heat. Damn sun, can’t you ease us into your burden? It’ll be over 100 degrees today and because of that, I won’t be heading out to get a new tattoo like I had planned. While I’m trying not to make sudden movements due to the temperature rising in my apartment, I listen slowly to A Bright Sky’s Reinventing Yourself. Before I even read we called Southern California home, I jotted down that their pop rock reminded me of so many local bands I’ve seen over the years.

Before I forget to mention, A Bright Sky isn’t just a pop rock band…They’re a Christian pop rock band. Their faith isn’t as in your face as a lot of other bands I’ve heard that fall into that category. There’s no hymns or big power ballads about the Lord. They keep things pretty low key. Honestly I wouldn’t have guessed they were anything but a run of the mill band if I hadn’t been told otherwise. But once it was in my head, I listened more closely and took away something completely different from “Cowboys & Zombies” than I had before. Other than that song, I heard general pop rock in stand outs like “Hero” and the must-have song about a girl, “Mainstream.”

A Bright Sky aren’t overbearing with their beliefs and that’s why I ended up liking them a lot more. They don’t preach in their music, they just tell it like it is. If you’re a fan of bands like Relient K and Haw Nelson, then you’re ready for the next wave of Christian pop rock, A Bright Sky. Reinventing Yourself is out now, so if you’re currently suffering from this thing called “heat,” relax in some AC and check this record and band out now.
