Going to bed frustrated and then waking up exactly the same can’t be good for your health. Ulcer meds running through my veins with a side of toast, this is going to be a long day. What’s bothering me isn’t as important as telling you about The Pygmy Tribe’s Synthetic Love Lasts Forever though, so we’ll head to a musical mindset to get my thoughts running in a different direction.
Synthetic Love Lasts Forever is an indie structured record that comes across folky at times, but relies heavily on Ben Gibbard like vocals that carry the stories contained in between the haunting music. “Diggin’ An Elephants Grave With A Spoon” would’ve been perfect in Perks of Being a Wallflower thanks to its vibe and idea of self-discovery. “Different Strokes” was a slow ride that had nothing to do with Gary Coleman, and “Rabbit Hole” had me forever more. The title alone makes your mind wander to a place of Wonderland where instantly life turns into this dark and twisted adventure with the help of stellar lines like “envy the past.”
The Pygmy Tribe isn’t a band that I’d necessarily seek out, but I’m glad to have met them. “Rabbit Hole” I’m noting you as a contender for my top songs of 2013 list right now, but you might give the whole album an A+ if you’re into bands like Illustrated Manual and The Shins. Synthetic Love Lasts Forever is out now, so pick it up and let it be the reason you forget your frustrations for a while.
