If Trent from Daria left Mystik Spiral and started a project that kept those same offbeat lyrics, but adopted a style that was a combination of distant Hip Hop sounds and Beck, then you’d have Zucchini Drive’s No Food But Lots Of Weapons. The vocals have an effortless tone to them and give the record an overall trippy atmosphere.
This duo made this record in parts of London and Belgium. After I read that, it was clear that this record was like the British version of The Office, I was not going to get it, no matter how hard I tried. But there were a couple of Ricky Gervais’ tracks on the record that I found appealing. “Howler Than Thou” had the most apparent Hip Hop beat to it that made it stick out from the rest. While “In Cahoots” was like an older version of Beck because it lacked in the energy department for me.
Zucchini Drive’s No Food But Lots Of Weapons for those who like the idea of abstract art put to song and laced with spacey, Hip Hop like beats. Fans of Bleubird and Otem Rellik are advised to check this record out when it drops September 25th.
