Christmas music isn’t on top of my list of needs. This is a weird fact since I love this time of year and my second favorite movie of all time is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. However, you can’t help but to sometimes be swept up in a jingle or a jam because well, tis the freaking season, right? So an old friend came to be with his latest project so I gave it a go. I have to admit that some of RKVC’s Christmas did make me smile.
Right off the bat, I have to say some of these songs sounded like when you go to a church function and they are trying to get the kids into things so they modernize old songs and make them a bit more pop. That’s what I felt like with “O Holy Night” and “Hark The Herald Angel Sings.” While I couldn’t help but feel like I was at a service held by a hip youth minister with those, I did enjoy some odes to classics with a twist; “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out” and “12 Days of Ex-Mas” were both clever and entertaining. The cherry on top of this mistletoe (are those cherries…berries?), was “The Good Life (Christmas Version).” It could be summed up with one word – intoxicating.
If you’re a fan of pop music BUT are a sucker for Christmas music, then you have to check out this record. If you hate everything merry and whatnot, you may want to skip it because it may be a bit too much for you, but hey you never know. It could turn your Scrooge ways around. So make sure to check out RKVC’s Christmas, available now.
