The Public: Shibuya Crossing

the-public-shibuya-crossing-reviewAt 27-years-old I take naps throughout the day. It’s not even 11am and I’ve taken two quick power naps. I have a feeling this is a great representation for how the rest of my week is going to go down. In between the pile of shit I have to get done for pennies and what I’m doing for the pure joy, I’m listening to The Public’s Shibuya Crossing. It’s a full blown punk rock record that reminded me of Broadway Calls – so much so that I may need to dig into my iTunes and listen to them later on when time is free.

The kind of punk that The Public does is among one of my favorite kinds you’d find under that umbrella. It’s not the pop variety that has had my heart since the age of 13, but it’s this more mature, grown man sounding music. It’s definitely not the anti-establishment you’d get with Anti-Flag, but better (to me anyways). You have that grit in “Liquor Store,” the musical attention in “Rivals” and even get a bit light with “Mexico.” However, “The Breaks” is where it’s at and it’s not just because I take them every other hour to play Sega and nap. It was the one that reminded me most of Broadway Calls.

If you like your punk with a bit of maturity and masculinity, then you’re going to want to check out Ohio’s The Public. Don’t be like me and go and take a nap either. Now that you have this information, go on and get your hands on Shibuya Crossing, out now. Then after that, you can head to nap town for a bit.
