Everyone always talks about Mondays being the worst, but if I could – I would live in yesterday forever. It was nearly perfect and I’m still smiling. Now Tuesday is the bearer of bad news as I sit and play catch up after a day of hooky. So I’m sitting here with elixr’s Each Man In His Darkness and wondering what exactly is going on. I couldn’t even begin to tell you where this record belongs because after numerous listens I’m chalking it up to one hell of a bizarre experience.
I guess you could say it’s “alternative” because it surely isn’t the norm. Words like “creepy” and “weird” flooded my notes as songs like “Sorted Out” and the obscure love song “Soma Coma” played on. I felt drowned in a Sophia Coppola as the title track started, but felt relieved when “Bugged Up” surfaced. It was the first time I felt like the vocals weren’t being hidden away. There were no musical distractions, no muffled ways – just a man and his voice. All in all the one to aim for first would be “Up To No Good.” It deals with the emotional toll and aftermath of a breakup and definitely earned the top spot by being the most understandable.
While I continue to crawl out of the pits of Tuesday, I’ll leave you with this…if you’re often considered a little odd – then elixr may be your best bet when it comes to music. It’s out there and if you care to join, Each Man In His Darkness is available now.
