Action Camp: PA

action-camp-pa-reviewIt’s way too early for me to be constructing anything, especially words – but what you gonna do? I’m going to put these words down about Action Camp’s PA, shower and head out into the gloom of this icky LA day. That gloom matches the self professed doom pop ways of this record. As the music plays, you can feel the frown settle in but as long as you’re enjoying the sounds, a smile will reside underneath it all.

From the dismal fairy tale styling of “Faded Fable” to the spooktacular “Hunger,” PA managed to scare me before 9am. This record would never be placed next to your standard pop classics like Madonna or Britney (1st and 2nd only), because it’s more like a distant, kind of gothic cousin. You can hear the darkness in “No Time (Third Shift Lullaby)” as it plays like an bone chilling vinyl in a horror movie; the room is empty…so who put it on?

Every song contains the same level of gloom and doom, but each has its own personality to display. If you’re into pop but also think Poe is a genius, you might want to check this record out. It’s dark, but that’s no reason to leave it in the shadows of the music world. If you’re wondering what mysteries lay within Action Camp, check out PA, out March 28th.
