The clock hadn’t even struck lunch time and I wanted to go on a murderous rampage. That’s a great way to start the week, right? Oh bosses who are shaped in the form of asses…Since he made me hate life, I ignored what he wanted me to do and turned my attention to The Slowdown’s Digital Gold. This music wasn’t the easiest to get through because I’m not a huge fan of synth-pop rock that belongs in an industrial nightclub’s side room.
I know that sounds like a Stefon review, but alas that’s what I heard throughout Digital Gold. Songs that had this synth base that was met with vocals that made everything seem creepy. “Safety Rhythm” was like a dance party in slow motion, while “Talk 2 Me” could’ve been the poster child for electronic sadness – maybe symbolized by a crying robot? The whole time I was waiting for that one big moment, but it never came in songs like “Right on TV.”
You won’t find me out getting down to The Slowdown anytime soon but if you like music that sounds like Trent Reznor’s son got into some dance records and put a dark spin on synth music, then check them out. You can pick up Digital Gold when it drops March 11th on Celebrity Narrators.
