So I’m sitting here were a pinch in my back, waiting for a video to upload on YouTube so I can post about it and then head out for a three mile walk to Wal-Mart. I’d listened to Reverend Horton Heat’s REV earlier in the day while sewing a patch onto a jacket, but the back pain left me on the couch soon after. Now I’m one pain pill in and ready to tell you a little something something about an album that reminds me of old cars, The Outsiders and an old friend.
“Smell Of Gasoline” triggered the car aspect, as did the idea of a bunch of rockabilly folk hanging out, admiring engines and listening to this song. I was kind of feeling this record but then it fell into the same pattern with a lot of the songs – pick a line and run with it for a few minutes. “Never Gonna Stop” was the prime example of that. Rockibilly then leads my mind to Ponyboy and the gang. Would they’ve liked “Spooky Boots?” I have a feeling they would’ve. Lastly, my dear old friend is into music like The Nekromantix, so as soon as I’m done here, I’m recommending her and her boyfriend get onboard if they aren’t already.
So if you’re into music that sounds a little rock n’ roll ala the 50’s but wears a punk veil, check out Reverend Horton Heat. They weren’t too much up my alley but that’s because I can’t rock a pompadour. Anyways, my pain pill’s kicking in so I’ll leave you with this – REV is out January 21st on Victory Records.
