imbium-mate-these-mushrooms-are-not-magic-reviewThe new year started off with a pain in my jaw and it seemed to have disappeared yesterday. It’s crept back into my life and as I sit here listening to Imbium’s Mate, These Mushrooms Are Not Magic, I’m debating on whether or not to call the clinic to have it checked out. While opposing sides get their arguments in my head, I’ll let you know about this little band with the big sound.

If you took a group of young guys who liked bands like The Doors and Muse and put them in a room, you’d get Imbium. You can hear that 70’s rock influence that amp up their modern sound in songs like my favorite “Green Eyed” and “Ghecko The Miff Funk” that presents itself as a little sexy ditty. The only one I found odd was “Wizard At The Door.” It almost sounded too old compared to the other ones, like “Nature Of” which stayed afloat thanks to the enjoyable yet simple repetitions of “tonight tonight.”

Imbium’s record is a quick listen if you only do it once, but rest assured – I’m warning you now that you’ll give it a few more goes because once isn’t enough when it comes to a few of the tracks. I’m on number…I lost count…So if you like that alternative rock sound that’s plain ol’ rock, meaning not pop punk, not metalcore, not fancycore (probably a thing), then check out Mate, These Mushrooms Are Not Magic, out now.
