destroy-nate-allen-glow-in-the-dark-reviewThere are no signs of sweets in my apartment and I’m sitting here feasting on croutons, pretending they’re cookies realizing what a fat kid I am and listening to Destroy Nate Allen’s Glow In The Dark. When these two came to me the first time around I was taken aback. I’d heard of folk punk before, but this was a little extreme. The songs were at times comical on With Out Powers Combined, and they kept some of that hilarity with Glow, but it seems this musical couple wanted the world to know a lot more about their unconditional love this time around.

Laughs were had when alligators were mentioned in “My Parents Managed Apartments” although I’m terrified of the beasts, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the one where Destroy Nate Allen gathered up their chums for “Jesus, Keep Us Safe from the Cops.” I guess everyone needs a higher power for something. Then there was “Recipe” which sounded like it could’ve been used as a segment on a cooking show in the Land of Ooo.

Good times aside, Glow In The Dark had its serious moments with “Broken Wings” and “Asshole” but for the most part this record showcased a couple in love. From the mushy “Turns Out You’re Perfect For Me” done in the most simplest form of music (gritty guitars matched with even grittier vocals), to the unconditional of “Loving You Means Everything.”

My croutons are done and so is this review, only the after taste of some Destroy Nate Allen is a lot better than butter garlic (where’s my gum?). If you’re into bands that have an extreme DYI mentality, like to laugh and love (sometimes at the same time) and you yourself are a fan of stripped down punk – then Glow In The Dark’s for you and out now.
