It’s been some time sense a record’s come through this neck of the woods where I could hear the person singing. No, I haven’t been listening on mute for the past couple of weeks. It’s just that Game Changer’s Three Years was more like listening to an actual person rather than some random set of songs. You could hear the life behind the words, the feeling of discontent, the humanity.
Three Years is like taking the insecurities of a pop punk kid and ringing them out over music that’s not too hasty but gets the point across. There’s a typical intro but unlike most, I didn’t just skip ahead; it was actually pleasant. Okay so I didn’t connect with every track. After a handful of listens I never got what “Full Disclosure” and “August” were trying to tell me. The other two though, what do the kids say? They were “tight.” Alright, a kid in 2001. Anyways “Moving On” and “Three Years” seemed to be conflicting ideas but they worked well together. “Moving On” fit me more with the idea of going headfirst towards your dreams, while “Three Years” was the result and the end of the chase.
Glad that after a couple weeks of albums that were singing but not to me, that Game Changer could come out of my growing pile to delight. Three Years is for those who like Late in the Playoffs and Chase This City, and is out now.
