the-kickdrums-thinking-out-loud-reviewYou have to wonder what Hopeless Records’ agenda is when they sign a band like The Kickdrums. Their indie almost pop, definitely dance, sound doesn’t fit in with the norm that we’re used to seeing from a label that’s flooded with big names like The Wonder Years, We Are The In Crowd and most recently Taking Back Sunday and Yellowcard. Where do The Kickdrums and their new record, Thinking Out Loud, fit in? Not with any of those bands, but they do fit into Hopeless’ plan to dominate the world; my thoughts, not theirs.

Warped Tour’s usually a cascade of Hopeless acts, but with The Kickdrums on their side – Coachella is calling. That’s the perfect place for songs like “Atonement” and “Fool Killer” to be fully indulged in the right atmosphere. Speaking of, “Brave Radar” set the tone of a laid back yet smoky club. Everything appeared in slow motion with this one, like a “finding yourself” moment in an Sundance Channel flick.

I’m not sure I’d place this one on my personal shelf, but I know that The Kickdrums have started a new chapter for Hopeless that can’t be ignored. If you’re into music that’s a night out dancing with the possibility of glow in the dark paint covered bodies, then check out not only their single “Thinking Out Loud,” but The Kickdrums as a whole. Their record, Thinking Out Loud, is out now on Hopeless Records.
