If I were at my mom’s I could walk less than five minutes to the mountains, crawl into a cave and die. Sadly I am in my own apartment and can only find time to cry for a second in the impromptu cave made out of crumbled sheets. For not having a regular job, my day to day is hectic and it’s times like these that I can thank bands like The Slow Death for drowning out my disarray with their own case of chaos with their album No Heaven.
I welcomed No Heaven with open arms today, so much so I even thought I should hang the good towels in the bathroom. Usually I’d scamper away from punk like this because I’m a pansy, but for some reason it fit the mood of today. My mood anyway, especially “I Need A Drink;” cheers! Other than being a fitting distraction from an overload of bullshit reality left for me today, No Heaven plays like the soundtrack to a skate video from 1988. It’s high energy fills space in time between kickflips and ollies with songs like “Not Cool” and “On Your Own.”
Somewhere Tony Hawk’s designing a new game and he’s hoping to stumble upon this record for some tracks to tack onto his project. If Bad Religion were the older brother and Pentimento was the baby hogging all the attention, The Slow Death would be smack dab in the middle. If you’re into this branch of punk make sure to check out No Heaven, out now on Rad Girlfriend Records.
