the-red-paintings-the-revolution-is-never-coming-reviewIt’s hard to look at the calendar and believe it’s already October. Even if I were to avoid anything that told me a date, the time of year would be apparent thanks to Party City ads being more aggressive than normal, the stockpiles of candy in Target and the spooky mood of everything around me. Speaking of, cue The Red Paintings’ The Revolution Is Never Coming. Put this on in a haunted house and call it a night.

I am glad I listened to The Revolution Is Never Coming in the middle of the day, granted I was alone – but the sunlight really helped to ease the mind as songs like “Dead Children” and “Dead Adult” played on. It wasn’t even the subject matter that really left me feeling like I’d been stranded in a cemetery during a full moon; the music really set that mood. “The Fall Of Rome” was like a more melodic take on Tool. Then it was full on Phantom of the Opera with the violent violins of “You’re Not One Of Them.” That was actually the lightest moment of the record, kind of like a sunny day in the cemetery maybe?

What a perfect way to kick off this month that’s always littered with ghosts and ghouls. The Red Paintings is a rock band that takes on an orchestral feel to construct a sound that thrives on the emotive of drama. If you’re into things that are unlike the norm, then check out The Revolution Is Never Coming, out now.
