love-crushed-velvet-delusions-review.jpgClubs and club music are odd to me. I don’t understand heading out to a place where strangers grind their body parts on one another to music that’s too loud. I may never get it, but that’s a huge part of the music realm. Love Crushed Velvet know that, but have brought about a more mature club sound to their album Delusions. It’s like what club kids of today will listen to in 15 years, or what club kids of the 80’s listen to now.

Overall the tone always stays a bit dark thanks to the masculinity of the vocals. “Revolution Time” sounded like a spooktacular club hit of the days when terms like “rad” and “tubular” owned the teen scape. I kept thinking “Spotlight” was a cover or something I’d heard in the background of Perks of Being a Wallflower, only because it bordered on Bowie. It wasn’t a cover as far as I could tell. Then there was “Lover Leave The Lights On.” That’s the one the whole idea of mature club music came into play.

As a whole though, this record would be wasted on me. It’s not my style and if you read the above – you know why. If you’re a fan of Joy Division and dancing then Love Crushed Velvet is likely more up your alley than mine. Delusions is out September 24th, so if it sounds like something you’d like, note the date and check it out.
