Dangerkids: Collapse

dangerkids-collapse-reviewMy head is in a million different places right now; freelance work, free Justin Timberlake tickets, decorating this wall in front of me with Backstreet Boys pictures. Then there’s Dangerkids’ Collapse. Back in 7th grade Linkin Park was the only rock band our middle school would play at lunch and I still consider Hybrid Theory one of the best albums of my adolescence, so when Collapse came into my life recently, I was like whoa – flashback alert with a little something extra.

If LP had a baby and it grew up with bands like Asking Alexandria and those other bands that have the demented Hot Topic tees, that’d be Dangerkids. They infuse their rap rock style with feisty aggression heard best in “Dust” and “Hostage.” Those were the times things were a little too much for me, maybe that shows my age. I could lie and say I grew out of music like this though, but would be a liar if I said 80% of Collapse wasn’t on repeat right now; the softer of the bunch though. Songs like “Destroy Yourself” and “Light Escapes” are more my speed.

It’s likely every review of Collapse will mention Linkin Park, but come on as soon as “Countdown” begins, that’s where your mind goes. Which, when you think about it isn’t a bad thing because LP has had a very amazing career. So if you like the obvious comparison, then check out Dangerkids. Collapse is out now on Rise Records, and streaming on Guitar World.
