This week I’ve felt like many people are the Gretchen Wiener to my Regina George and I’ve been annoyed by everything they do. That led me to waking up and writing this piece about how no one is amazing, but no one is lame. We’re all middle of the road compared to something else in life. That’s the same though process I had after listening to Makari’s See Dreams on repeat all morning. It wasn’t horrible, but it didn’t blow me away either; a balanced pop rock record that played it safe.
There were songs that just played to a short attention span like “Keeper” and then there were songs that started out really strong and then just settled on a comfortable state like “Sky Splitter” and “Swallowing Sleep.” It was actually that alliterative one that caused a little interest in me since I suffer from night time problems. Sadly this song wasn’t about taking pills for sleep or sleep paralysis. The other song that I’d recommend for those just digging for the best to judge the rest on, “Ten Million Different Colors” is for you.
If you’re into bands like The Material and Darling Parade, then Makari is a fit for you. Let them sit with you and don’t harp on their earrings. Do note that See Dreams plays it safe and doesn’t step on anyone’s toes though. If you’re in the market for some new pop rock, check out See Dreams, out now. You can also stream it on New Noise too!
