Last year Dowsing’s It’s Still Pretty Terrible showcased two sides of how I was feeling; the dreamer and the realist. A year later and I’m still confused about my life, so Dowsing is still pretty much writing the soundtrack to my mental state with I Don’t Even Care Anymore. They’re still mixing their style of indie with thought out lyrics that mirror 20-somethings everywhere. There’s awkward situations, some self-deprecation but overall no regrets.
If you’re like me, you’re figuring it all out still. You’ve opened that junk drawer way too many times today hoping to find the instruction manual for life, no luck. That’s when you and I both turn on “Ferret Feelings” and “feel disgusted” with how we feel about our current place in life. Then we remember we’re awesome and only have one life and play “I Don’t Even Care Anymore.” We sing along as we dance to a track that’s become a mantra of the day. It’s as lively as the record plans on getting and we’re taking full advantage of this party. Forget that manual, we’re too busy living as best we can.
On the other side of things, I’ll say that not every song was one I could adopt as my own. There were a couple that were good but were more like things I’d listen to without getting too involved with. “Get Weird” about how fucking hard it is to muster up the courage to say how you feel and “Still Don’t Care,” a nice acoustic track towards the end. Those two are worth checking out. I’d skim by “Meant To Shred” and “Everything Works Out” though, they just didn’t do their part in holding things up on their end.
Dowsing remains a band that “gets me,” and if we were in some romance novel, they’d be the one to bring me out of my rut and marry me. They’re just a band though and I don’t think we can all get married unless we move to wherever that Sister Wives show tapes. Instead I’ll just note their latest indie outlook on life and say that if you’re into Dads or Brave Birds, check them out. I Don’t Even Care Anymore is out now on Count Your Lucky Stars.
