dame-preventions-of-heartbreak-reviewThe closest I’ve ever been to real heartbreak is finding out Nick Carter was engaged and every time one of my favorite shows announce they’re in their last season. Other than that real, adult heartache has never been something I’ve had to deal with, but I watch a lot of TV and movies, so that’s where I had to place my state of mind when listening to Dame’s Preventions of Heartbreak. It was relationships put on blast with a POP rock soundtrack, the same pop rock you’d consider someone like Kelly Clarkson; a powerhouse singer who performs with real instruments and not a backtrack.

The first single off the record, “Holy Moly,” reminded me of my younger years and the end of MTV shows when they’d play a clip from The Hills. I’d ignore what the people were saying, but almost always noticed the music surrounding their nonsense. If Kristen Cavawhatever was still making “reality” I’m sure “Holy Moly” would end up in a scene or two. The content fits the drama I’m sure went on within that show; waiting for that right person until they’re ready. Plus, the chorus us killer like a true pop track. “Cest La Vie” is another hit on Preventions of Heartbreak. The power in the vocals had a Katy Perry feel to them. The only bumps in the road came with “Ride” because it fell a little flat compared to the rest, and “Ton of Bricks.” That one just played weird. It was as if it were going for an island feel, but never quite made it.

Dame is for those who seek out pop stars who aren’t just puppets for pleasure, but rather actual singers who can back up what they put out. If you’re a fan of Clarkson and even good ol’ Taylor Dayne, then Dame is right up your alley. Preventions of Heartbreak is out mid-August, so keep an eye and ear out for it. Keep tabs on Dame on Twitter.
