The Press War: New Again

the-press-war-new-again-reviewThis morning looked like a scene from my sophomore year of high school. I was locked in my room crying over feeling like a failure. Not much has changed in a decade, not even the music that can make you feel a little better. The Press War’s New Again isn’t one of those albums you put on that’s full of deep meanings. It’s more like something you put on when you just need something upbeat to drown out the sorrows of reality.

The Press War helped me slowly lift the black veil I’d placed upon my head today, but that’s only because it was impossible to deny the high energy and the sex appeal. “Pandering” and “Fault” lines are more for those who like the hyper sounds of a band like All Time Low; cutesy pop rock. Then there were the sexy times to be had with “New Again” and “Only You.” While the other two were the core of the album, these were the delightful deserts that left you wanting more. However, “The End Of The World Party” was not one to RSVP for. It sounded like a completely different band, and didn’t pack a punch or have a hormonal overload to it.

If you are looking for a rock outlet you can jump around to, but not to the extent of black eyes and broken noses, just good times and sing-alongs, then The Press War is for you. Four out of five were enough to get me out of my funk for the time being, so if you too need a little pick me up, then check them out. New Again is streaming on Absolute Punk, and is out now.

  1. […] New Again had a sexually induced song, but this record started out with a song you don’t lust after but rather, fall in love with. “Vespertine” got things off to a slow start, but with those beautiful and strong vocals…the pace was welcomed, because you wanted to be drowned in every second. Just under two minutes long, it was over before it began and in ran “I’m So Bored With Us.” Here was the hyperactive guys from a couple of years ago. Overall I’d call this a band with pop punk roots, but a pop rock shell. This track and “Kill You (Indie) Darlings” are proof of that. Those were the only ones showcasing that All Time Low like factor, so back to the more mature men The Press War are now. “Follow Me” unfortunately lost me, but “Lost Boys” brought me back with the simplicity of the line, “I’m fine, overwhelmed.” […]
