Monday morning is quickly turning into the afternoon and I’m deep in Facebook threads that are either about Limp Bizkit or hating the Royal Baby (capitals? Sure). One I care deeply about and I could do without the other. If you know me, then you know Wes Borland is always welcomed. Anyways between all that, I’m listening to Hunson Abadeer’s self-titled EP and after a handful of run-throughs, it’s for sure – this could be an indie teen movie you’d watch once, maybe twice.
Imagine a boy helplessly in love with that girl from history class. He sits at home with a guitar and writes his feelings out because that’s the only way he can truly express all the emotions running around, making his belly ache. That’s when you get the best of the EP, “So you don’t know this song’s about you.” We don’t think it’s about us, we know it’s about her. All around it’s the best because it’s the cleanest and you’re left content after listening to it. One can’t say the same about “Another Sad Song (AstroDub Remix).” That electronic mix wasn’t necessary and changed the tone of the record.
We can’t leave this tale of love without mentioning “Bob Saget” though. While I don’t think this was about Danny Tanner, I’d like to pretend it was at least inspired by the object of his affection’s love of Full House; you got it dude.
Hunson Abadeer is a somber indie (minus that dub) record that sits heavy on emotions and relies on the singer/songwriter aspect of life. I’d say Hunson Abadeer was like Ben Gibbard’s younger cousin. He’s got talent; just needs to fine tune it to make the songs resonate a little more after they’re through. If he were a gymnast, I’d say his form was okay but he needs to work on sticking the landing. Hunson Abadeer is out now, so check it out.
