Alto Jeffro: Basements/Bleach

alto-jeffro-basements-bleach-reviewThe town I grew up in was riddled with drugs. I think that’s the case with any town in America though. Even the suburbs are popping pills for leisure, but my town sometimes took it too far. Meth labs and such; memories. I never partook in the activities, but I’m pretty sure an acid trip in the middle of the desert at night would sound like Alto Jeffro’s Basements/Bleach. It was trippy, scary and for the most part puzzling instrumental music with hints of humanity gone awry.

I couldn’t help but think as the songs played, what did I get myself into? This record was not made for a person like me. It’s more suited for an alternative performance artist looking for something to add ambiance to their final piece. The title track “Basements/Bleach” and “Nothing” were the least chilling. The rest rattled off like a, well I’m not even sure. Songs like “Consider Me Undone” and “In My Head” were cause for alarm with haunting accents and at times, screeching. By the end with “Life Among the Shadows,” I was fearing my life.

Usually these feelings come after the end of a metal record experience, but this was something far different. There was no metal here, no horns being tossed up for the rock gods. This was just Alto Jeffro’s take on reality; a twisted one at that. If you’re into music that’s a little peculiar then you have to take your chances and check out Basements/Bleach has going on.
