Dead Leaves: Amend Regret

dead-leaves-amend-regret-reviewThis morning I couldn’t find a real reason to get out of bed except to earn six bucks writing about 50 Cent and Katy Perry, so I got up at a sloth’s pace and went. Then I sat in my chair and looked up “depressed gifs” on Tumblr, because when you’re sad, that’s what you do in this day and age. You don’t talk about your feelings, you find something else that can convey how you feel. Then some other things kept me busy until I sat down with a quesadilla and Dead Leaves’ debut EP, Amend Regret – and I thought gifs were the only thing to capture my mood. Amend Regret is pop punk that expresses the idea of self-loathing and being void of caring thoughts. I needed this today of all days, I needed this.

At first Dead Leaves was coming off a little like Armor For Sleep, lines of sadness smelt like “Williamsburg,” in songs like “Sever The Ties,” but then the aggression took over and the tides changed. “Seven year Plan” and “These Walls” showed the rage in their pop punk antics, while they did find time to get a little sensitive with the acoustics of “Pathos.” Those were songs I’d recommend, but this next pair are ones I am demanding you listen to, especially if you find yourself in a rut. “We Were Infinite” is the first and I thought was going to be my ultimate on Amend Regret, and then strolled in “Empathy Disconnect.” It’s basically every gif that’s “look how many fucks I give,” put to song.

This album came out a couple weeks ago, but I think I was meant to listen to it today, of all days. Those who like to take what’s bottled up inside and hear it conveyed it song by someone else feeling exactly the same…those people will like this record. Dead Leaves is also for those who fancy bands like The Wonder Years and The Story So Far. Amend Regret is out now, so check it and continue to have a happy and safe holiday weekend.
