Adalie: Actions

adalie-actions-reviewThe bands and artists that were among the first to be featured on Golden Mixtape when it was still in the fetal stage will always be near and dear to my heart. Adalie is obviously one of them because why else would I lead with that sentence if they weren’t? So Adalie, we chatted years ago and from there I’ve gotten to know one of the members through Facebook updates, but most of all I’ve gotten to keep tabs on them musically. They’re probably around my younger brother’s age, but their taste in music is like they were adolescents when I was and you can hear that on their new album, Actions.

If you haven’t already headed to the Google stage of your relationship with Adalie by now and stumbled on their YouTube page, I advise you do that after you’re done here. There you’ll find covers of all the greats; Taking Back Sunday, Finch, The Movielife and more. They transform those into their own and have taken what they can do to others’ songs and put it into Actions.

It’s like they took the best of pop punk and layered it with more rock. They rightfully go hard with “Violence” but let the chorus do the talking when it comes to “Sunken In.” When it comes to the perfect sentiments of Actions though, it’s a tie between “The Unknown” and “Implode,” which reminded me a little of a more startling Starting Line record.

This is the first time in a long time that I’ve heard what Adalie can really do aside from cover songs that sit on a pedestal in my heart, and I have to say I wasn’t let down. If you’re someone who can go from listening to albums like Sink Swim’s Heights one minute and then switch over to a band like Currents soon after, then Adalie is just for you. Actions is out now, so go and make your lasting connection like I did years ago.
