Currently the police are outside my apartment. I can only assume they’re investigating the screams that rudely interrupted me while I was listening to State Lines For The Boats. Well this is a first, both for my listening to State Lines and having the police outside my apartment as an adult. Besides feeling like I’m in the background of Cops, I’m feeling okay with what State Lines has to offer on For The Boat; just okay.
“For The Boats” makes sure the record starts off strong, with a sense of punk mixed with an indie aroma that’s a bit gritty. I will say that the wailing of sirens didn’t make me miss a certain part in “The Same Mixtake” that reminded me of Matchbox Twenty’s “3am.” If you were potty trained by ‘93 then listen closely towards the end. Is that a bad thing? Not to me because I consider them one of my top 10 bands of all time. Moving away from me though, but not really…Music always has to boil down to connection and that’s where “Linger” stepped in. No matter where you are in life, you really don’t know what you’re looking for, right? Other tidbits from For The Boats that I’d recommend are “Garages” and the acoustic gem at the end, “Where It’s Warm” for its live effect. Any song I failed to mention just fell by the tracks of my train of thought and were passed by for the above.
The police have asked their questions and from the Spanish that was heading back and forth between all parties, I have no idea what happened outside my door and upstairs. It’ll remain a mystery, but at least I made it through State Lines For The Boats without any other major things going on. So if you’re into bands like Turnover and Young English, then solve the problem in your life that is “needs new music ASAP,” and check out State Lines. For The Boats is out now on Tiny Engines.
