Uh Huh Baby Yeah!: Trash Talk

uh-huh-baby-yeah-trash-talk-reviewLittle known fact about me, I swear I could’ve been a dancer if my mom would’ve put me in classes when I was younger. From there I would’ve either been a backup dancer for Backstreet Boys or starred in Step Up and married Channing Tatum. Those are the delusions that live inside my head, and since I didn’t become a professional dancer, I pretend to be when I listen to music like Uh Huh Baby Yeah’s Trash Talk. Okay, so this isn’t a Britney record, it’s more on the same page as Head Automatica’s Decadence; rock that makes you want to move as much as possible in a fashionable way.

Things start off strong with “Dances With Wolves,” for it’s a dance party shrouded in aggression. The same way Daryl Palumbo would deliver upbeat tracks with the idea of Glassjaw forever in the back of his mind, that’s what I heard from Uh Huh Baby Yeah’s vocalist when Trash Talk started. Then I heard it again and again and again. The next few songs followed the same pattern and none ever took the spotlight away from “Dances With Wolves.” “Whores Will Be Whores” tried with the eye catching title, but didn’t quite get me the same way the other did. By the end though I did get something different with “Ocean of You.” The song played like a rock opera; theatrics matched by the vocal abilities of their lead were center stage.

Trash Talk is a record that encases a lot of energy into a tiny space, and I’d decided by the third track that Uh Huh Baby Yeah! was a band I’d much rather see live than listen to on record because I could imagine their vigor would better translate on a stage. Plus, shows are the best place to show off the moves I work on all day…However, in order to have a good time at the show, you have to listen to the record, so if you’re into bands like Head Automatica and Men Women & Children, then check out Trash Talk, out April 23rd.

His ‘Uh Oh’ whales totally remind me of Head Automatica! Oh how I miss that band, they were my favorite. I read on, oh it is Daryl! No wonder it sounds like him, haha
