Friends may laugh when I say it’s been a long week because I work from home and spend most of my time blogging about CW shows and music, but it has been. Sometimes even when everything seems to be falling into place, you feel so small because you’re called stupid and a moron all in the span of a few days and your future may be rocked thanks to living situations gone awry. With all that looming in my head, I tried my hardest to find solace in Turnover’s Magnolia. This was hard since I’d never heard of them before, but in the end I did find a couple tracks worthy of pouring my heart into.
Six tracks noteworthy out of 11, that’s not bad. The acoustics of “Flicker And Fade” were simple and enjoyable, as were the nostalgic remnants of a relationship in “Bloom.” For the most part Magnolia was a chilled experience with some bursts of oomph here and there. The excitement was strong with “Shiver” and a note I’d like to pass along to friends, “Most Of The Time.” It’s about being caught up in the “what could be” and reality, think about it and go on with your life accordingly. Those were some good ones, but not my songs.
After feeling beat down by negativity, I did feel empty this week and that’s why “Hollow” became the anthem to my second week in April 2013. Feeling like shit makes it hard to focus, so instead of writing to my full capacity, I wasted too much time laughing about nonsense on 9gag, therefor “To The Bottom” was a second place personal favorite.
Magnolia isn’t a runaway with every track hitting it out of the park (when did I become a sports person?), but more than half the tracks are good musical notations to check out. This is especially true if you’re a fan of Basement or Citizen. Turnover’s Magnolia is out April 16th on Run For Cover Records.
