“I’m late! I ‘m late! I’m late!” I woke earlier than normal today and I’m still a little behind schedule on all I want to get done before I head out to Paramore. They’re playing Jimmy Kimmel tonight and I’m hoping it’s a good time. Before I walk out that door into a world filled with scorching sun rays, I had to get my thoughts down about The Bunny The Bear’s Stories. When I first heard the name and saw the cover art, I thought…well this is going to be a happy time. Listening closely and looking closer, my initial reaction was dead wrong. It’s a good time, but in a demented dance party sort of way.
“Eating Disorder” started the record off in an odd way and then took a scary turn, as in a house of horrors at county fair. I was startled, but proceeded through the hallways…I mean other tracks. It didn’t take long for me to decide with “In Like Flynn,” that if Underoath and Lady Gaga had a musical spawn, it’d be The Bunny The Bear; for the music has a pop/dance/electro side, but then molds together with rough hardcore metal sound. As Stories played on, my mind was set; this was a twisted fairy tale unfolding before my ears. It was easy for my thoughts to process the record as so since there was a song called “The Frog,” and tracks like “Imagine” and “Hey, Allie” showcased both a light and dark side.
Call it a Tim Burton like tale or call it a dance party encased in fear, whatever you do, don’t forget to call it The Bunny The Bear’s Stories. You might forget to check it out otherwise. If you’re into bands like The Used (everything after In Love and Death, and Everyone Dies In Utah, then this is the next addition to your life. Stories is out April 16th on Victory Records.
