Point Of View: Burner

point-of-view-burner-reviewTo everyone that thinks working from home is a blessing, obviously has never done it. While the upsides are I don’t have to wear a mask and interact with humans all day, the downside is that I get pretty sidetracked at times. How many 9gag posts can one girl giggle at before she realizes that she has three books to breakdown and five sites to contribute to besides her own? The answer, a lot. So as the list of things I should do is getting longer, I take a break from what pays to do this review of Point Of View’s Burner. It’s just an EP filled with a handful of punk/ska tracks, but it’s taking me too long since I’ve listened to it more than a few times now.

I got to know Point Of View when they released Sideshow Years and from then till now, I feel like they haven’t really changed their style, but their content. Before it seemed a bit broader in terms of what they were talking about, while Burner sounds more personal.

Every time Burner starts again, it’s the title track that makes me forget I have a million other things to do today. The ska is strong with this one and I can’t help but sing along (well try to; I wasn’t born with that gift). The whole feel of “Burner” and the rest of the record reminds me of the early 90’s; carefree. That is especially true with “Home.” It sounded like the soundtrack to a 90’s movie starring a cast of young skater kids who rebel against “the man” to get their skate park back in Venice Beach. That’s odd since Point Of View isn’t from the beach town, but San Jose. The rest of the record from “U-Turner” to “Arizona Sun” will remind people of early Green Day, before they were a Broadway staple.

Point Of View’s Burner was one notch on my “to do” list, and if you’re a fan of Save The Swim Team and the now defunct We Are The Union (seriously, fell in love and they stopped…bummer), then you can go ahead and add them to your list now. Burner is out March 29th on Hella Mad Records.
