Religion, politics, Backstreet Boys VS N’SYNC. These are the subjects that often end up on the “don’t even bring it up” list for most people, and are often called “sore subjects.” Okay, so the last one is mostly mine, but it’s a debate I tackle every other month. I would get into it now, but this isn’t the time or place. However, this time is allotted for Best Practices and their EP Sore Subjects. It’s a far cry from boy band pop, quite the opposite; it’s an abrasive punk record that would make Top 40 fans uneasy.
Most often than not the songs came across as intimidating, especially “Never 100%” and “Game Changer.” That one in particular was abrupt, but at the same time had a reoccurring part that could’ve been found in a 90’s movie montage; with a punk overtone. Musically, “Brita’d” was the best, but overall it was “Home for Halloween.” It started off slow and then picked up, the dynamic of the song was different from all the others, so that’s probably why after I was done with Sore Subjects, it remained in my memory.
Best Practices has made sure that their Sore Subjects isn’t an off-topic item for fans of bands like CityCop and Indian Taker. So if you like music that’s punk, coarse and available right now, then check out Best Practices Sore Subjects.
