Got a late start this morning due to another night closing my personal shop at 2am; a bar without patrons, just a girl up late playing spider solitaire for no reason other than she wasn’t tired. I could’ve got a head start on writing the words that I’m speeding through right now, but I wasn’t in the right state of mind last night to tackle the pop rock that comes with Fourth Quarter Comeback’s The Only Way We Know.
“All In” and “Back To Sleep” reminded me of Boys Like Girls before they apparently took a country turn, so from a personal standpoint, it wasn’t for me. However when “All In” got into the choruses and the vocals took on a Tom Delonge persona, I was kind of digging it.
Since we’re on the subject of sounding like something else, there were a couple that started out and sounded like other familiar songs. Music fans old enough to vote know how Good Charlotte’s “The Young & the Hopeless” begins and might say “Drama Queen” has that same attention grabbing start. On the other side, listeners who could be my preteen child had I gotten pregnant in middle school might say “New Girlfriend” could be on Victorious for its catchy and cute ways. Maybe it’s because I love Good Charlotte and Victorious, but when The Only Way We Know was over, those two were my favorites.
Fourth Quarter Comeback’s The Only Way We Know is inoffensive pop rock that could be paired with The Summer Set (although that band swears like a baby sailor) and All Time Low (minus the dick jokes). The band and the album offer up clean cut lyrics about girls and love that any sucker for youthful pop rock will enjoy. The Only Way We Know is out now, so get into it if it sounds like you need a new band to get into.
