Went to the doctor last week, and when I say doctor I mean the po’ folk clinic in what appears to be Tijuana in America. He told me my back pain was due to anxiety and not to worry, how ironic I thought as I grabbed my prescription in a paper bag (that’s how you roll at that place) and left. A day and a few pills later and I’m sitting here worried about nothing, but contemplating everything from my lack of a social life to the idea that my big trip to New York might be further than I’d like it to be. All the while I’m trying to drown the sounds of a baby shower next door with Fall City Fall’s hardcore experience, better known as their album Victus.
Usually I’m not prepared for bands like Fall City Fall, but last week I was introduced to Rescuer, so my ears weren’t shocked by the amount of adrenaline that came from songs like “Many Masters” and “Dissentipede.” How fitting was “Anxiety Attack” for me? Title aside, the anxiety riddled track was one of the best off Victus due to its inviting start and more understandable lyrics (for those who aren’t used to decoding hardcore). Another hit was “Lovebirds.” I couldn’t tell if the song was aimed at a loved one, or was stuck questioning religion though. Anyone care to break that down for me? One other track that made a dent in my world was “Many Lives.” When you listen, you’ll appreciate what Fall City Fall can do musically. Misses though, had to be “Dead Saints” and “Taken.” They faded in the background compared to the others for me.
Victus starts with “St. James” and mirrors a mental patient rambling on, but once the music started, it was one hell of a ride. Hardcore fans who wait for bands like Greeley Estates and Woe, Is Me to tour, might want to start checking out what Fall City Fall’s up to. Victus is out January 22nd on Victory Records. So it’s not a long wait to remember to get it when it drops.
